History of KNGN

As the 1980’s were waning and the radio world in an ever changing upheaval, a radio group local to McCook, NE, decided to eliminate one of it’s commercial AM stations in favor of a more promininet FM station.  In the hopes that a local Christian radio station would benefit McCook greatly, and a testimony to the power of Christ they offered the AM Station license to a local Church, Peace Lutheran located on East 6th street in McCook.

Naturally the decision was an incredible opportunity.  By God’s grace, in April of 1992, KNGN began by broadcasting Easter services from Peace Lutheran Church. Located in a tiny closet at Peace Lutheran, KNGN operated as a flagship station for LCMS owned KFUO out of St. Louis, rebroadcasting many programs created by KFUO.

As time moved on an KNGN’s mission grew, the station was faced with a tough decision. The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod could no longer afford the operating expenses of the station, giving the station operators two choices: shut down and abandon the mission, or incorporate to become completely locally owned.  The station was reformed under the new name Kansas Nebraska Good News Broadcasting Corp.

In 1996, KNGN was blessed with a brand new facility located at 38005 Road 717 outside of McCook. Dedicated in April, KNGN moved its base of operations to the much bigger facility.  Now streaming worldwide, KNGN continues to grow day after day thanks to the generosity of its donors and the grace of Jesus Christ.
