The Lords Supper

Attendance at the Lord’s Table signifies a unity of faith and confession. It is a testimony of what we believe, for by partaking of it, “We proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” (1 Cor. 11:26) In fact, St. Paul indicates that it is a witness of the faith we share: “Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread!” (1 Cor. 10:17) As “faithful stewards of the mysteries of God” (1 Cor. 4:1-2), we have a responsibility to inform those who take the Lord’s Supper unworthily, that they are sinning against the body and blood of Christ, thus bringing judgment upon themselves. (1 Cor. 11:27-29) Therefore, we at St. John’s Lutheran Church practice close communion, meaning that only those who agree with us in all areas of doctrine and practice, may commune with us. We cordially invite members of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, who are in good standing in their home congregation, to freely commune with us.  All others are asked to please speak with the pastor before the service begins. We thank you for respecting our belief and practice regarding the Lord’s Supper.
